Adopting variable rate irrigation

Location: Craig Ryan’s property, “Lightning Ridge”, Dandaragan

Project Start Date: May 2016

Project End Date: November 2017

Funding: Australian National Landcare Program

Project Aim: This project aims to host an event to engage with 30 growers to encourage the adoption of variable rate irrigation. By utilising variable rate irrigation, farmers will be contributing to the protection of the soil resource through increasing their water use efficiency, preventing ground water recharge, reducing risk of soil salinity and preventing nutrient leaching.

This technology has the ability to reduce the risk of nutrient enrichment which is currently harming the soil resource.

To illustrate this technology on-ground a farm will be selected & a case study written, supported by real life qualitative data.
